Serving with CANpassion
by Shaun Chan (4H), Vice-President of the Interact Club
From our home-made mascots Tuny and Tiffany to engaging morning announcements with the chirpy catchphrase ‘Hey Raffles!’, the Year 1-4 Interact Club’s CANpassion was off to a running start!
CANpassion is the sequel to CANtribute, a campus-wide canned food donation drive held by the Interact Club two years ago. This time, it was held in partnership with RI Boarding and the RI Prefectorial Board. For a total of four weeks, the CANpassion campaign appealed to staff and students of the school to donate canned food, instant noodles and other non-perishable goods to 25 households in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 that had been identified by Central CDC Singapore. In total, we managed a grand total of 656 items, an amazing feat! This undoubtedly reflects the generosity of our Rafflesian family!
On the morning of 23 April, Interactors sorted the cans, checked their expiry dates and packed them into bags to be distributed to the households, in conjunction with the Home Refurbishment Programme championed by Raffles Institution Boarding. Interactors, together with a group of Year 4 Prefects, distributed these goodie bags to the needy residents. Seeing their faces brighten up upon receiving this much-needed help definitely brought much happiness and satisfaction to us! It was indeed an outreach filled with love and compassion!
