By Shachin Ganesan (4C) and Ritesh Srinaag Gunniya Rajkumar (4J)

Last week, our school held the Grand Finals for the 34th Annual Tamil Literary Competitions for Secondary 1 to 5 students from 20 schools all over Singapore! Our Year 3 and 4 Tamil students worked tirelessly with our Tamil Language teachers to organise this event to inspire a love for the Tamil language.

Over 200 students tested their wit and prowess in the Monologue, Ted-Talk, Singing, Quiz and Essay Writing competitions with all of them vying for the Overall Challenge Trophy for their schools.

The event was graced with the presence of MediaCorp celebrities and experts in the various fields as judges. Former Rafflesian, Dr Saravanan Shanmugam, who is currently plying his trade as a doctor in Phoo Teck Huat hospital, came down to his alma mater as the Guest of Honour for this event. He delivered an inspiring speech about his own love for the Tamil language and motivated the student audience to keep the language alive by retaining their love and enthusiasm for the language even after they leave school.
