The six-year RI Music Elective Programme, one of the Ministry of Education’s Special Programmes, offers a comprehensive and holistic experience for academically able students with an aptitude for music to pursue the study of music. Through
music history, analysis, composition and performance, the programme aims to develop music students to become independent and sensitive thinkers as well as outstanding pioneers in the national and international arts scene.
As globalisation brings
with it cultural diversity, it is increasingly important for music students to extend their remit beyond the confines of Western art music. The programme imparts to students a broad perspective on the range of music from the ASEAN region and beyond in
order to encourage a more rounded and comprehensive outlook on music and a wider understanding of one’s identity in a lattice of shared cultural links.
