Established in 1886, the Raffles Debaters is the oldest CCA in RI. Beyond sustaining our strong debating ethos, we also hope to equip members with brilliant oratorical skills, a passion for knowledge, and the tools for critical analysis and lateral thought.

In the course of its history, the Raffles Debaters has produced thinkers and speakers of the highest order. Many alumni have gone on to represent Singapore at the prestigious World Schools Debating Championship (WSDC). In 2010, former Raffles Debater Li Sheng Wu was named the Best Speaker at the World Universities Debating Championship, joining a list of luminaries which includes Aaron Maniam (Chief Adjudicator, WSDC 2008) and Liew Shang Zhao (winner of the Angus Ross Prize in 2007, awarded for the top Literature essay in the GCE ‘A' level examinations).

In the spirit of giving back to the community, the Raffles Debaters organises the annual Primary School Debate Invitational (the first primary school debate competition in the nation), together with the Debating 101 workshop and Pro Bono Coaching Service. In so doing, we strive to forge a brighter debating landscape for Singapore.
