Basketball

RI Basketball is one of the few CCAs that involves a big number of alumni who are willing to give back to the school even after their era has gone by. RI Basketball has been consistently clinching top places in zone and national competitions as well as bringing back honour for the school. RI Basketball has always consisted of enthusiastic, dedicated and never-say-die players and coaches. Out of this group has come an illustrious history of events, stories and the development of outstanding basketballers for both school and country.

Additionally, every year, Old Boys of RI Basketball gather at the current RI campus for the Gryphons Cup: an inter-batch tournament organised for all RI Basketball alumni to take participate in, ensuring that RI Basketball be not just a CCA within the school but instead, one big family of basketballers of all ages, abilities and graduating years.

Graduating batches of RI basketballers are each assigned one of the four colours: Red, Black, Blue and Yellow.

With the arrival of a new coach in 2017, the Rafflesian Basketball B and C Division teams embarked on a new sporting year eager to instill our FIRE values of Fortitude, Integrity, Respect and Enterprise on and off the court. With basketball being one of the most competitive school sports in Singapore, where over 80 school teams compete annually, both our teams did well to progress to the latter stages of the South Zone tournaments. Two of our B Division players, Adam Harith and Bryan Teo Tzee Loong, were awarded the Singapore Schools Sports Council Colours Awards (Distinction) by the National Sports Association (NSA) for taking part in the 4th Southeast Asia Basketball Association Under-16 Championship For Men 2017. Our C Division player Andre Lim was selected by ActiveSG Basketball Academy of Singapore to represent our country for this year’s prestigious Junior National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Stars experience trip held in Shanghai, China. This event was endorsed by the NBA of the United States and allowed Andre to interact with participants from Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The teams train 9 hours a week and play friendly matches regularly throughout the year. We believe strongly in demonstrating the FIRE values in not just during competitive matches, but also consistently during training and other school events like Sports Meet and CIP.
