Raffles Institution

Raffles Voices

The Choir of Raffles Institution, known as Raffles Voices, was founded in 1992 by Ms Charmaine Chiang. Since then, it has grown into a 75-strong SATB choir and ranked among the top 10 children's and youth choirs in the world by Interkultur.

Raffles Voices has been active on international scene with great successes. Under the directorship of award-winning conductor Mr Toh Ban Sheng since 2003, Voices has garnered many gold awards, numerous champions and jury prizes in international festivals. In celebrating the 20th anniversary of founding Raffles Voices by Ms Charmaine Chaing and the 10th anniversary of its resident conductor Toh at helm, the choir embarked on a most challenging competition to Poland and Lithuania. The 41 young singers from Raffles Institution competed in three categories with a total of 10 songs and flew Singapore's flag high. Voices won Grand Prix at the 20th International Choir Festival of Sacred, Advent and Christmas Music, held from 13–16 December, 2012, in Kaunas, Lithuania. It was also awarded a Special Jury Prize for the Most Expressive Choir, the Audience Prize and a Gold Diploma. A week earlier in the 3rd Krakow Advent & Christmas Choir Festival, 7-9 Decemeber 2012, Poland, Raffles garnered two more gold diplomas in Youth and Chamber categories.

At home, Voices has consistently won Gold or Gold with Honours at the Singapore Youth Festival since 2000 and is recognized as one of the best boys choirs in Singapore. Raffles Voices has been featured repeatedly in the Esplanade Concert Hall Limelight Series to full-house audience.

To date, Raffles Voices has toured the Austria, Finland, Czech Republic, Germany, Hawaii, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia and Spain. In the many years to come, Raffles Voices will be continually organizing overseas trips, various camps, showcase platforms and many other programmes to develop each member holistically while furthering their achievements both in Singapore and beyond. We invite all interested students to join our family of singers!
