[GCE A-Level Results Release] Excelling in every sphere: celebrating the indomitable spirit and resilience of the class of 2021


1    A total of 1,175 students at Raffles Institution (RI) sat for the 2021 GCE A-Level Examinations. This number comprises students from the six-year Raffles Programme (RP), as well as students admitted at Year 5 (JC 1) via the Direct School Admission (DSA) and Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE).

2    The school congratulates the Class of 2021 on their exceptional achievements at the A-level Examinations. The Class of 2021 demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of unprecedented circumstances brought about by the global pandemic. They have persevered, adapted and risen to the challenge, upholding the school’s tradition of excellence while embodying the Rafflesian spirit of enterprise and fortitude.

Outstanding Academic Achievements
3    98 per cent of students achieved 3 H2 passes, with a pass in General Paper or Knowledge & Inquiry.

4    52 per cent of students offering four H2 subjects scored distinctions in all four subjects. 61 per cent of students scored at least three H2 distinctions in their content-based subjects.

5    The class of 2021 achieved exceptional performances across the various H2 subjects, with 8 out of 10 scoring Distinctions in Literature in English, 7 out of 10 scoring distinctions in Biology, Chemistry, History, Knowledge & Inquiry, Mathematics and Physics, 6 out 10 students scoring distinctions in Economics and Further Mathematics, and 5 out of 10 students scoring distinctions in English Language & Linguistics and Geography. Rafflesians did exceedingly well at the General Paper, with 61 per cent of students scoring distinctions.

6    Overall, 512 students attained at least 6 Distinctions, 286 students attained at least 7 Distinctions, 82 students attained at least 8 Distinctions, and 2 students attained 9 Distinctions.

7    32 per cent of students also obtained a full University Admission Score (UAS) of 90. The mean UAS was 85.

Excellence in Every Sphere
8    In the academic domain, Rafflesians from the Class of 2021 did exceedingly well on the international stage, bringing home 18 medals for Singapore at the International Olympiads for Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics and Physics, as well as the International Young Physicists’ Tournament.

9    Our student athletes put in their best at the National School Games, despite numerous disruptions and cancellations of competitions due to Covid-19. Their efforts secured podium finishes for the school in all three sports completed: air rifle, air pistol and bowling.

10    In the arts and aesthetics, our students did very well at the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation, achieving 8 Certificates of Distinction and 4 Certificates of Accomplishments across the various performing arts groups.

11    Undeterred by the pandemic, the Class of 2021 continued to serve the community, initiating a total of 144 community service projects and finding meaningful ways to give back to society while observing safe management measures.

12    The school celebrates the efforts, achievements and unique contributions of the Class of 2021. We would like to thank the RI Board of Governors, our team of dedicated teachers and support staff, parents, as well as alumni from the larger Rafflesian community. Their commitment to the school and unstinting support have enabled RI to uphold its tradition of excellence and service to the nation.
