[GCE A-Level Results Release] Exceptional Results In Exceptional Times: RI’s Class Of 2020 Excels

1.       A total of 1218 students at Raffles Institution (RI) sat for the 2020 GCE A-Level Examinations. This number comprises students from the six-year Raffles Programme (RP), as well as students admitted at Year 5 (JC 1) via the Direct School Admission (DSA) and Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE). 

2.       We would like to congratulate the Class of 2020 for achieving a stellar set of results at the A-level Examinations. The excellent results, achieved in the face of Covid-19 disruptions, are testament to the Rafflesian spirit of fortitude and resilience embodied by our students. 


Overall Performance of the Class of 2020 

3.       98 per cent of students achieved 3 H2 passes, with a pass in General Paper or Knowledge & Inquiry. 

4.       47 per cent of students offering four H2 subjects scored distinctions in all four subjects. 58 per cent of students scored three H2 distinctions in their content-based subjects. 

5.       The class of 2020 achieved exceptional performances across the various H2 subjects with 8 out of 10 scoring Distinctions in Literature in English, 7 out of 10 scoring distinctions in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Music and Physics, and 6 out 10 students scoring distinctions in Economics, History and Knowledge & Inquiry. Rafflesians did exceedingly well at the General Paper, with 55 per cent of students scoring distinctions. 

6.       Overall, 498 students attained at least 6 Distinctions, 273 students attained at least 7 Distinctions, 76 students attained at least 8 Distinctions, and 7 students attained 9 Distinctions. 

7.       28 per cent of students also obtained a full University Admission Score (UAS) of 90. The mean UAS was 84.5. 

8.       We are very proud of the all-round achievements of the Class of 2020. Despite numerous event disruptions due to Covid-19, our students continued to shine at international meets. Rafflesians kept the Singapore flag flying by winning 1 Gold and 1 Silver at the International Biology Olympiad Challenge 2020, 1 Gold and 1 Silver at the 52nd International Chemistry Olympiad, 1 Silver at the 32nd International Olympiad for Informatics, 3 Silvers and 2 Bronzes at the 61st International Mathematical Olympiad, and 3 Golds in the International Distributed Physics Olympiad 2020. In addition, 4 Rafflesians were part of the national team that emerged 1st in the New Zealand Young Physicists’ Tournament 2020. 

9.       We would like to thank the RI Board of Governors, our teachers and support staff, parents, as well as alumni. Their dedication and unwavering support, throughout what has been a challenging year due to the global pandemic, have enabled RI to uphold its tradition of excellence and service to the nation.
