Boys’ Brigade

2020 Boys Brigade

About the Boys Brigade (BB)
Ever wanted to do sports, play instruments, build resistance and give back to the community? The Raffles Institution Boys' Brigade (RIBB) is just for you! The Raffles Institution Boys’ Brigade (60th Company) seeks to develop Boys’ holistically. Activities such as Band, Blaze [adventure race] and Community Service help to accomplish this. The range of programmes develop the Boys’ characters, physical fitness and discipline! Furthermore, there are various exciting opportunities for Boys to represent the school in competitions to help them achieve their fullest potential. Some of these opportunities include the Boys’ Brigade Blaze, Cluster Drill Competition, Character Quest and Singapore-South East Asia Pipes and Drums Championships.

Annual Parade APR
Every year in August, the 60th Company will hold its Annual Parade (APR) to celebrate its achievements with the wider 60th family. In the weeks leading up to the APR, the Boys will go through rigorous rehearsal sessions to ensure that every aspect of the parade is performed at its best, especially drill. Distinguished guests to the event would include the Alumni and our Boys’ parents. Their presence also allows us to foster deeper relationships with our Alumni, and to recognise the progress of every Boy in the Company. The Year 1s also receive their first promotion to the rank of Private, and their parents are invited to celebrate the milestone. The APR is also a significant milestone for the Year 3s and 4s, as the Year 4s hand over the leadership baton to the Year 3s.  In addition, the 60th Band would play classical Scottish tunes to showcase their melodies to our Alumni and Parents!

Band is a core aspect of the Boys’ Brigade (BB). It is a rarity to find the Pipes and Drums in Singapore. The Bagpipe Band not only allows Boys to pick up a unique instrument (no musical background required!), but also be part of a family where the bandsmen practise, compete, and most importantly have fun together. Due to the patience and kindness of the instructors and friendliness of the seniors, the Band has done consistently well in competitions and performances. All in all, as a cornerstone of the Boys’ Brigade, the Band has been a memorable part of many Boys’ BB experience.

Boys Brigade (BB) Blaze is a 40km endurance race across Singapore that incorporates sports such as cycling, rafting, abseiling, rockclimbing and archery. It is an avenue for Boys to not only get to know their fellow CCA mates, but for them to grow and develop in their character. Through the various hikes and training sessions, Boys have learnt to become more resilient, and are given the opportunity to step beyond their comfort zones, such as through leading a team in the competition together. Blaze has built a family that we are all proud to be a part of. This is a family that will continue to support each other outside of Blaze or BB.

BB Community Involvement Programmes (CIP)
We have a variety of CIPs annually, namely BB Week, BB Cares and BB Share-a-Gift (BBSG) deliveries.  BB Week is an annual fund-raising event held across the Boys Brigade Companies in Singapore that would last for roughly a month, and has usually been held in March. BB Cares is a partnership with a Voluntary Welfare Organisation (VWO) that is student-initiated, -organised and –implemented. The students have worked with both children and elderly over the years. For BBSG deliveries, the students support BBHQ by delivering food hampers to elderly residents living in rental flats or low-income neighbourhoods.
