Chess. A sport that has withstood the test of time, chess continues to captivate players around the globe. Amidst the current pandemic, players—novices and grandmasters alike, have begun making use of alternative virtual platforms for chess. This year, at Chess Club, we have similarly adapted to these circumstances by organising enriching online chess tournaments and learning opportunities for our members to see the joy of learning in a new light.
Our weekly sessions saw students not only taking away essential techniques and skills but also forging closer friendships through chess. While the experience of online sessions might be a far cry from that of the loud and aggressive matches that we used to have face-to-face, the online experience has made it both convenient and efficient for players to meet up for a game of chess.
Though our members in previous years, had partaken in prestigious chess tournaments, this year has been like no other. This year, our members took part in the Chess against COVID initiative, which has helped raise funds for those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our training sessions are on every Friday, from 1:30pm to 3:30pm, with FIDE master Mr Lim Hoon Cheng (International Chess) and Mr Goh Test Soon (Chinese Chess).
