Our Approach

In Raffles, we aim to 1) create a vibrant arts community of teachers, students and practitioners through an authentic, differentiated and inspiring education for the arts and 2) nurture a new generation who aspires to bring the arts in Singapore to a new level of engagement and excellence.

Learner Outcomes

Through art education, we cultivate students who:

  • embrace change and continuous learning in the arts
  • have ample exposure, holistic knowledge and authentic experience in related areas of an artistic discipline as well as inter-disciplinary context
  • understand the national and international arts scenes, community as well as current practices and ethics support,
  • participate and contribute to the arts scene through strong personal mastery and the pursuit of excellence
  • uphold the Institution’s values of Fortitude, Integrity, Respect and Enterprise (FIRE) through artistic practices

Curriculum Overview

General Art Programme (GAP)
The GAP modules focus on Visual Literacy and Visual Communication, which equip Rafflesians with a set of skills to understand and analyse the contextual, cultural, ethical, aesthetic, intellectual, and technical components involved in the production and use of visual materials. A visually literate student is both a critical consumer of visual media and a competent contributor to a body of shared knowledge and culture.

Gap Day (Lower Secondary)
Our Gap Day programmes exposure students to the role of the artist in society by examining how their work is being affected by the pandemic. Y2 students get to experiment with large scale environmental tape art in their classroom block, in a collaborative module with the English & Literature department.
