Criteria and Schedule


The DSA-JC Exercise allows students with special talents and achievements to apply to RI directly. Students who are successful in this exercise are guaranteed a place if their O-Level results meet the eligibility criteria for JC admission.

2018 Application Schedule

Application period starts: 11 May 2018 (Fri) 12pm

Application period ends: 08 June 2018 (Fri) 12pm

Announcement of DSA Results: by 31 July 2018 (tentative)

Please submit the following documents at the Administrative Centre (Level 2 counter) between 8.30am and 4pm from 11 May to 22 June:

  1. printout (hard copy) of your completed Online Application Form
  2. photocopies of these supporting documents (they will not be returned)
    1. Primary 4 and Primary 5 End of Year overall results
    2. Primary 6 Mid-Year overall results, which consists of CA1+ SA1
    3. CCA records, awards, scholarships and additional qualifications (only indicate the highest level achieved) for admission on the strength of special talents, if any
    4. results obtained in overseas schools, if you were not studying in a Singapore school in the past two years (2016 and 2017). Please enclose an English translation of these documents if necessary
  3. Portfolio containing:
    1. a personal statement (500 words or less) describing your interest in music, how this interest has been developed, and how you hope to contribute to the school community through your musical talents
    2. a recommendation from one music teacher, preferably your current private music teacher, written no more than three months earlier than the day you apply for the DSA
    3. the top five music-related awards, achievements or certifications you have achieved in the last three years. For example, an ABRSM certification, an award received at a national or international music competition, or participation in a music event.

Please check that your email address (as indicated in the Application Form) is valid. We will inform you of test and/or interview dates via email.

If you are shortlisted:

  • you would have to sit for an Audition/Practical Selection Test.
  • you would also need to submit a $20 application fee by NETS or cheque (payable to 'Raffles Institution'). We will waive the fee for students under FAS (Financial Assistance Schemes); please enclose supporting documents.
    All applicants will be notified of the outcome by 31 August 2018 (tentative). Please note that we:
  • will not process late or incomplete applications;
  • will not release detailed results of the Half-Day Programme, Interviews, trials, and auditions;
  • reserve the right to not discuss the results or reasons for non-selection; and
  • will not provide information on application status or outcome over the phone.
